The cornerstone of our shedding philosophy is based on the fact that lizards grow by shedding their skin, if they don’t shed, they die! If humans and organizations don’t grow, they die! Shed or You're Dead®!
Shedding Philosophy
July 29, 1998 — It was 7am, time for our quarterly ethics meeting at the hospital. As I rushed into the room at the last minute, I ran into a guy I hadn't seen in a while. "Good Morning, David, How are you...and how is your snake?" He smiled and said, "I'm fine, my snake is fine, but my lizard is dead." I responded, "Your lizard is dead? What happened?
"He didn't shed his skin...and if lizard don't shed their skin, they die." "Why?" I asked curiously. He went on to explain, "Lizards grow by shedding their skin. If they don't shed their skin, they aren't growing. Lizards die if they don't grow."
After I thought for a moment, I said, "David what can we, as humans, learn from a lizard?" With a perplexed look on his face, he thought for a moment and said, "We grow physically, mentally and spiritually, and if we don't grow, we die!"
"And David, what does our old skin represent? Maybe old habits, negative thoughts, unhealthy relationships?"
Simultaneously, we both looked at each other...the light bulb had gone on..."Shed or You're Dead!"™
